Counterfeit products pose a great threat to the economy, trade, innovation, environment and health & safety of the consumers. It negatively effects the brand image of the company and causes loss of revenue to the industry and government. According to a report by ASPA counterfeit products cause a loss of Rs 1 Lakh crore per year to the Indian economy. The need of the hour is a standard-based service to detect counterfeit and enable product authentication.
GS1 India is working with the industry in combatting the problem of counterfeit products. We have developed and deployed technological solutions based on global, interoperable GS1 standards. These solutions enable greater visibility, traceability and transparency across supply chains from raw materials to point of sale/use. This helps in countering the underlying causes of the growth of counterfeiting.
